I find having my own panels faster than using keyboard shortcuts (and there’s nothing to memorize!). ![]() That’s for quickly placing a 1 pt border around an image-something I do all the time. Note the item “1 pt” in my InDesign panel below. This is handy if your panel is filled with lots of esoteric icons. See how the panel even includes Tool Tips. They’re a work in progress as I’ll surely be adding more items, and deleting others. Below, I made two panels (the top one for Shop, the other for InDesign) in less than 5-minutes. Arrange them any way you want, grouping items from various menus into a convenient layout. Creating a panel is a snap, just drag and drop from a list of commands and toolbar icons. This little application lets you design your own custom panels-putting the tools and commands you use most frequently right at your fingertips. If, like me, you use Photoshop and/or InDesign on a daily basis, then beat a speedy path to Adobe Labs and download Configurator 2.0 (it’s free!). When you need to organize your photos or perform mondo batch operations, you’ll want to launch the main Bridge app. After all, this is still Adobe Bridge-just a teeny, unobtrusive version. You can also enter text in the search bar, filter items by rating, and more. It provides instant access to your images right within Photoshop and InDesign. So you don’t have to leave the programs to access a photo, you simply navigate to any folder, view thumbnails within the panel, then drag and drop ’em right into your layout. Say hello to Mini Bridge, another built-in timesaver in Adobe CS5. Move over, Picasso! Adobe CS5 Snapshots (#2) The Bristle Brush Preview feature provides a visual representation of these changes, and you can save your tip configurations for future use, allowing you to build a customized collection of Bristle Tips to experiment with when using Photoshop brush tools. Mixer Brush settings provide extensive control over the wetness of the canvas, the load rate to add paint to the brush, the mixing rate between brush and canvas colors, and whether the brush is refilled, cleaned, or both after each paint stroke.Bristle Qualities define key bristle properties such as shape, length, stiffness, thickness, angle, and spacing, which affect how the color is laid on the image as you paint. ![]() The Mixer Brush lets you define multiple colors on a single tip, and then mix and blend them with the underlying hues on your canvas (similar to having a wet canvas), achieving creative results that rival traditional painting media. Here’s the scoop direct from Adobe: The Mixer Brush, includes a new mechanism for blending colors, and Bristle Tips for more naturalistic brush strokes, Photoshop CS5 redefines the way you paint. Oh boy!-new painting tools in Photoshop CS5. You’ll definitely want to take a test drive. In the meantime, you can check out our Street Peek at Photoshop CS5 in the current issue here. Very Hollywood, eh?Ĭan’t wait to explore the main new features in Premiere Pro which I’m reviewing for the July issue of Zoom Street. The shallow depth of field provided by my 200mm lens transformed headlights on the highway in the background into twinkling discs. The image at the top of this post was grabbed from an HD sequence shot with a Nikon D300s. There’s an Export Frame button in both the Source and Program Monitors so you can quickly grab frames without having to use the Adobe Media Encoder. Gotta love it.Īlso, capturing a video frame is a one button affair now-no more searching through menus. But Adobe has addressed the issue in CS5 and videos can be dragged from the camera and dropped right into Premiere Pro. A big hassle that brought my workflow to a crawl. Had to first convert the native AVI files to QuickTime. In the past I couldn’t import videos directly from my Nikon D90 and D300s into Premiere due to a codec glitch. Just got my hands on the controls of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and immediately discovered two improvements that make upgrading from CS4 a no-brainer. ![]()
